Male' City Mayor Adam Azim announced that stray cat transfers to the cat shelter would be completed within six months. He also highlighted the opening of a new cat facility facility in Hulhumale', which aims to create a safe environment for stray cats and protect public health from diseases linked to their presence in public areas.

Mayor Azim emphasised the challenges of relocating bulls, particularly those near King Salman Mosque, stating that while the goal is to move all stray cats within four to six months, the process will require expert assistance.

The facility, built on a 5,000-square-foot plot in Farukolhufushi, will include quarantine areas, a clinic, pharmacy, laboratory, and play spaces for the stray cats. The Male' City Council is also recruiting a veterinarian and two nurses to provide care.

Additionally, Mayor Azim expressed the need for revenue generation to support the initiative and collaboration with volunteer organisations to maintain the facility effectively.
