The government has reduced its political workforce by 248 positions as of October 31, 2024, as part of an economic reform strategy focused on cost-cutting and improved efficiency.
President's Office Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed made the announcement on her official X account on Friday.
Heena added that addition to the reduction, the Cabinet has approved a new mechanism to monitor the performance of remaining political appointees. This system, set to launch soon, is designed to increase accountability and enhance job performance across government roles. She further said that establishing clear performance metrics, the government aims to ensure that each position contributes effectively to national goals.
These reforms highlight the Maldives’ commitment to responsible spending and efficient governance while continuing to deliver quality public services.
