The government has projected MVR 2.2 billion in grants from friendly nations in the budget presented to Parliament for the upcoming fiscal year.

According to the budget estimates, the total grants expected next year amount to MVR 2.6 billion, with MVR 2.2 billion anticipated from friendly countries.

India is expected to provide the largest portion, with an estimated MVR 1.6 billion, which accounts for 72 percent of the total grants from these nations. Meanwhile, China's grant is projected at MVR 502 million.

The estimated amounts of grants from other friendly countries include:

  • Japan: MVR 47 million
  • Abu Dhabi Fund: MVR 45 million
  • Netherlands: MVR 13 million
  • Pakistan: MVR 10 million
  • Government agencies: MVR 5.9 million
  • Saudi Arabia: MVR 1 million
  • Italy: MVR 83,556

In addition, the Government expects to receive MVR 336 million from various organisations, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank anticipated to contribute the largest amounts—MVR 109 million from ADB and MVR 163 million from the World Bank.
