The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has launched a nationwide design competition, inviting Maldivians aged 18 and older to create landmark installations for iconic locations, including Velana International Airport, Male’ City, underwater sites, and several islands throughout the Maldives. This initiative, set to enhance the tourism experience and showcase local artistic talent, seeks to celebrate the Maldives’ distinct charm through innovative and culturally reflective designs.

Participants are encouraged to submit landmark concepts that capture the essence of the Maldives, showcasing cultural heritage, natural beauty, and the unique characteristics of each chosen site. The competition will award the top 10 designs, selected through both a panel of judges and public voting. Each winning designer will receive MVR 20,000, a gift package from the competition sponsors, and prominent exposure in MMPRC’s global marketing campaigns.

The MMPRC emphasised sustainability and cultural relevance in design criteria, with a maximum height limit of 20 feet for each landmark. Submissions will be evaluated on safety, durability, and visual impact, as well as their ability to convey the historical and cultural significance of the Maldives. Entrants must submit their designs by 1800hrs on November 30, 2024, including CAD and PDF dimensions and a completed application form. Each participant may submit one design per landmark.

This competition provides a chance for Maldivians to shape the nation's tourism landscape while strengthening the Maldives’ global identity. MMPRC’s initiative highlights the commitment to positioning the Maldives as a leading tourist destination with a vibrant cultural story that appeals to both locals and international visitors.
