The Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament has approved the appointment of Ahmed Sareer as the Ambassador of the Maldives to Saudi Arabia.

Ahmed Sareer, who is currently the Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was most recently the Director of Asian Affairs at the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

Sareer, who began his diplomatic career in 1986, has held several prominent positions. He has served as foreign secretary, the Maldives' permanent representative to the United Nations, ambassador to the United States, and ambassador to Bangladesh.

Within the Foreign Ministry, he has also held roles such as assistant undersecretary, deputy director, director, and director general.

Ahmed Sareer holds a Masters degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University, Australia.
