Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef attended the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 on Friday. The event was graced by His Majesty King Charles III and delegations from various Commonwealth nations.
Accompanying the Vice President were members of the Maldives delegation, including Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Abdulla Rafiu, Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and Dr. Iruthisham Adam, High Commissioner of the Maldives to the UK.
The Prime Minister of Samoa, Hon. Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, officially welcomed the delegates to CHOGM. The Vice President also participated in the official family photograph with the heads of delegation attending the event.
Commonwealth leaders convene for CHOGM every two years, hosted by different member countries. This year's meeting is notable for being held for the first time in a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) in the Pacific. The theme for CHOGM 2024 is "One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth."
