The Sinamalé Bridge Park, symbolizing the friendship between the Maldives and China has been officially opened today.

Chinese Ambassador the Maldives, Wang Lixin, and Construction Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib were in attendance at the opening ceremony today.

The Construction Ministry stated that the "park commemorates the transformative China-Maldives Friendship Bridge which has served as a catalyst for socio-economic growth, connected communities whilst serving as a testament to the long-standing deep friendship between China and the Maldives."

The Sinamalé Bridge, which is the first inter-island bridge in the Maldives, was mostly funded by a US$126 million Chinese government grant and US$68 million Export Import Bank of China loan.

The Chinese company that built the Bridge is also in-charge of all maintenance work.
