The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s TBEA Group Co. Ltd. to establish a high-capacity transmission line connecting Malé, Vilimalé, and Gulhifalhu.

This initiative aims to enhance the region's energy infrastructure and meet the increasing power demands in Gulhifalhu.

As part of the agreement, a 150 MW dual fuel power plant will be constructed on Thilafushi. The plant will have the capability to run on both oil and gas, significantly boosting power generation capacity in the area. Research will begin soon, with construction set to start next year.

The electricity grid will be connected once the Thila-Malé Bridge is completed. This follows the earlier connection of the electricity grids of Malé, Hulhumalé, and Hulhulé through the Sinamalé Bridge.

This project marks a significant step in strengthening the energy network for the greater Malé region, aligning with the country's growing development needs.
