A Maldivian man has died following an accident at Velana International Airport on Tuesday, when a luggage carrier vehicle collided with a lamp post.

According to the police, the incident occurred at approximately 0930 hrs this morning while the luggage carrier was being driven on the apron. The vehicle struck a lamp and camera post.

The 45-year-old driver sustained injuries in the collision and was initially taken to the airport clinic before being transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The police reported that no external injuries were found on him during the examination at the hospital. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing.
