According to statistics released by the Maldives Zakat House last month, MVR 12.7 million has been distributed to individuals on the poverty list as Zakat al-Mal.
The distribution began on September 13, with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs reporting the highest per capita disbursement of Zakat al-Mal for the poor and needy this year. A total of 3,183 people from Male’ and the atolls received Zakat, with each individual receiving MVR 4,000, an increase from the MVR 3,500 given last year.
The ministry also stated that this year’s Zakat funds were deposited into the accounts of eligible beneficiaries after a thorough review of the poverty list from 2021 onwards.
Additionally, MVR 1.2 million was allocated for medical treatment to 131 individuals on the poverty register last month.
