Maldives Customs Service has confiscated cannabis from a shipment to the Maldives, labeled as ‘Vape Oil.’
Home Minister Ihusan Ali announced the seizure in a post on X, indicating that the Maldives Customs Service was responsible for the operation.
The seizure was a significant factor in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to ban vaping in the country. The Minister shared an image of the shipment, which showed several cardboard boxes containing bottles that appeared to hold vape flavors, suggesting that cannabis may have been hidden inside.
President Muizzu revealed his decision to prohibit vaping in a post on X, stating that he has directed a ban on the importation of vaping devices and their components, effective November 15th. He also instructed relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to prohibit the use, possession, production, sale, advertising, and distribution of vapes, starting December 15th.
