President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Abdul Haseeb Ismail's name to the Parliament to replace Fuad Thaufeeq as Election Commission (EC) Member.

Fuad's term as EC President is set to end on 23 November.

Following the end of Fuad's term, a new member will be appointed after the President approves a nominee from the list of applicants sent to Parliament. Applications for the EC membership were opened by the President's Office on September 12, and Haseeb's nomination was forwarded to Parliament on September 25.

Haseeb’s nomination has been referred to Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions for review. Currently serving as an Assistant Director at the EC, Haseeb has previously held key roles in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
