The renovation of the runway at Kooddoo Airport will be completed within a few days, Transport Minister Mohammed Ameen revealed on Sunday.
The airport has been temporarily closed for runway repairs.
Transport Minister Mohammed Ameen said in a post on X yesterday that Maldivian Airlines has decided to suspend flights to Kooddoo due to the long-standing lack of maintenance of the airport and the condition of the runway.
Minister Ameen told One Online today that the runway of Kooddoo airport has not been maintained properly and this has caused rocks to fall off the runway and damage the flight engine.
The minister said a permanent solution was needed for the Kooddoo runway.
"A permanent solution is needed. The runway needs to be repaired again. However, we are looking for a temporary solution for the time being.
The airport was first opened in 2012. The airport's runway has since been expanded in 2017 to accommodate larger aircraft.
