The operations of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world's largest shipping line to the Maldives is expected to increase container imports to 6,000 per month.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Malé Commercial Port in collaboration with MPL and MSC's local agent Centurion to welcome the first ship of MSC, Wajeeh said the volume of containerized goods has increased day by day.
"Then there were 1,000 containers a month. But today we have to make changes as we can now accommodate 6,000 a month. We used to have a maximum of 4,000 to 5,000 containers. So this change to over 6,000 containers is a huge number,” he said.
Work is already underway to bring more vehicles and equipment to the port to expedite the services, he said.
"We are still working on the vehicles and vessels we need for the company. I can assure you that the company's services will expand even further in the future," he said.
MPL assures the businessmen that the services will be even more complete in the future, he said.
