A man accused of threatening to kill President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has been arrested.
The threats were made during a Facebook live stream of the president’s speech at a meeting held at the UN headquarters on September 26. The threat was posted from an account under the name 'Ablo Miyad Yusuf.'
In a statement to the media last evening, the police said that a Facebook account believed to belong to Abdullah Miyad, 40, had issued threats to kill President Dr Muizzu and other state officials.
The police further noted that the suspect had been involved in other incidents, including making threats against individuals, posting abusive language online, and promoting same-sex marriage.
Miyad was arrested upon his arrival in the country from abroad, and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
