Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure has revealed that the Maafushi Harbor Project has reached 57 percent completion.

The ministry said today that 57 per cent of the project, which is being carried out by MTCC, has been completed and the works currently underway include the construction of the outer canal using sand from the harbor expansion area.

The Maafushi harbor development project includes dredging of a new harbor basin with an area of ​​63,711 cubic metres, re-dredging of the old dredged bay with an area of ​​28,836 cubic meters and dredging of a canal with an area of ​​4,414 cubic metres.

In addition, 31 meters of outer canal, 680 meters of rock rivetment, 700 meters of geobag rivetment, 374 meters of road canal and a 160 meter long, two-meter wide concrete jetty will also be constructed.

Under the project, a 19-metre-long, three-metre-wide bridge will be constructed, 1,869 acres of harbor pavement will be constructed and port lights will be installed.

The cost of the project is MVR 76.48 million.
