Former President Mohamed Nasheed has expressed delight towards the improving ties between the Maldives and India, following a period of strained relations.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is currently on a state visit to India at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu. This marks Muizzu's first official visit to India since assuming office on November 17 last year.

Nasheed, known for his close ties with India, shared his thoughts on the relationship in a post on X. He emphasized the deep cultural and historical connections between the two nations, pointing to shared elements such as culture, music, films, history, and geography.

"We should always be friends. I am happy to see the relationship improving. Congratulations to PM Modi and President Dr Muizzu," Nasheed tweeted, expressing optimism for the renewed partnership between the two countries.
