Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has asked to revoke the announcement to build a fish pond near the minaret at the Islamic Centre.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, seeking contractors to build a pond to commemorate the Centre’s 40th anniversary.
Minister Dr. Shaheem explained that due to the current economic conditions, it is not an appropriate time for such initiatives, leading to the decision to rescind the announcement for the fish pond project.
He further noted that pond had historically been present in that area.
"In fact, the pond has been there since the Centre was first established. Restoration efforts are currently underway," the minister stated.
Previously, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs had invited small and medium enterprises to participate in the project to construct the fish ponds.
