Recent statistics have revealed that the elderly population of the Maldives is currently 20,500.
There are currently 10,530 elderly men and 10,023 women in the Maldives, according to the Housing Ministry's statistical report released today.
As per the report, the highest ages are between 65 and 74 years old. There are 6,335 women and 6,668 women in that age group.
According to the report, 60 percent of the country’s elderly are married. The divorce rate is 11 percent. Twenty percent of people are widowed, while 1 percent have never married.
The largest population of elderly is located in the capital city, with 6,669 in Malé City. The second largest population is in Addu City.
