Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a man to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.

Nazim Ibrahim was found guilty under Section 9(a) of the Special Provisions Act to Deal with Child Sex Abuse Offenders, which addresses sexual abuse by individuals in positions of trust towards children.

In its ruling, the Court stated that the offense warranted punishment under Section 9(b) Act, which allows for imprisonment of up to 18 years.
