President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has departed from New York after concluding his official visit to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During his visit, President Dr. Muizzu addressed the General Debate of the UNGA making history by being the first Maldivian President to speak before the UN Security Council in the 59 years since the Maldives joined the United Nations. His speeches and participation in sideline events focused on key global issues such as climate change, renewable energy, socio-economic challenges, and digitalisation.
President Dr Muizzu also held numerous high-level meetings, including with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as bilateral discussions with other world leaders attending the UNGA. He took time to engage with the Maldivian community living in New York.
In addition to his UN activities, President Dr. Muizzu addressed Princeton University as part of the "Dean’s Leadership Series" at the School of Public and International Affairs and visited Google’s New York office for a tour.
