President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the importance of the Maldives working closely with countries around the world to achieve progress and development.
Speaking to reporters at Velana International Airport (VIA) before departing for the United States, the President outlined the key goals of his visit, which include sharing the Maldives' story and highlighting critical areas for the development of island nations to major global powers.
"The development of the Maldives must be pursued by strengthening ties with other countries. I will provide a clear picture of the situation in the Maldives. Along with addressing domestic issues, we will also speak on matters that are globally significant for the Maldives," President Dr. Muizzu stated.
During his visit, the President said he would seek international support for crucial areas of the country's development.
President Dr. Muizzu is scheduled to address the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as participate in a special debate at the Security Council.
This will mark the first time a Maldivian president addresses the Security Council. The main sessions of the General Assembly will be held starting on September 24, 2024.
