In a recent development, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has assumed responsibility for the security of Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan.

The shift occurred on Wednesday night after a threat assessment, according to an official from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Typically, the armed forces provide security to the nation's defense ministers. However, in Minister Ihsan's case, the MNDF has stepped in following concerns raised during a threat assessment.

Minister Ali Ihsan is considered one of the most influential figures in the current administration. In addition to his security portfolio, he oversees the police, immigration, and customs departments. Under his leadership, a special task force comprising these agencies has been actively addressing significant issues in the country, including illegal immigration, gang-related crime, and drug smuggling.

Recent operations have seen a crackdown on illegal immigrants, with many being detained and deported. Additionally, businesses run by illegal immigrants have been shut down as part of broader efforts to restore law and order.

The Ministry also recently released a list of prominent businessmen accused of conducting business without paying the necessary dues for their migrant workers. This has increased pressure on the government to address these issues swiftly.
