A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of drug trafficking in a case related to recovery of drugs stashed in undergarments.

Ahmed Mifzal, K. Male', was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case.

He was arrested on June 27, 2019, following a tip-off from a common man that he was transporting drugs from a ferry from Addu City Feydhoo to Fuvahmulah.

Mifzal had stashed 100.8972g of diamorphine in his undergarments at the time of the arrest.

The Criminal Court had yesterday ruled that Mifzal had denied the charge of trafficking in diamorphine, but based on the evidence provided by the prosecution, the charges against him were proved beyond reasonable doubt.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison and fined MVR 100,000.
