The nomination of Abbas Shareef as the Prosecutor General (PG) has been referred to the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament for consideration.

In tonight's extraordinary parliamentary sitting, Secretary General Fathimath Niusha read out the letter submitted by President Muizzu with his nominations for the post.

The letter said that the President proposes the name of Abbas Shareef alone for the position of Prosecutor General.

The letter also listed the names of other persons who had applied for the post. They are:

1. Mariyam Nihayath, M. Thaaju

2. Ahmed Hailam, Oceanlead, S. Hithadhoo

3. Ali Sameer, Ma. Wayside 610 flat

4. Ahmed Yamin, H. Delhi-ge

5. Ibrahim Ali, Hulhumale' Hiya 02-13-6

Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla referred the nomination to the Judiciary Committee for consideration.

Abbas holds a law degree from the University of Tasmania. He has legally represented former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and former President Abdullah Yameen. He also served as a High Court judge from 2011 to 2015.
