President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to visit India, spokesperson at the President's Office Heena Waleed said.

At a press conference held at the President's Office, Heena confirmed that the President is visiting India, but did not specify the date of the visit.

"Discussions are underway between Maldives and India on the dates for the trip. The trip will be finalised at the convenience of both the leaders," Heena said.

The President had earlier visited India to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India's long-standing ties with the Maldives have soured under the current administration. Relations between the two countries have soured over the release of Indian troops in the Maldives. However, the two countries have been working on mending ties.

As such, India's external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Maldives on 9 August.
