A special police team has departed to N. Holhudhoo for further investigations regarding the woman found dead with visible injuries on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Zakiyya Moosa Manik, 50.

Police said they received a report around 1000hrs about an injured woman in a residence in the island.

The woman was taken to the health centre in the island where she was declared dead, police said.

A person from the island told 'One' that Zakiyya's body was discovered by a municipal staff collecting garbage near a godown by the kitchen in the house. Zakiyya had severe injuries on her neck and a large knife was discovered at the site according to the source.
