MP-elect for South Mahchangolhi constituency and the former President of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has said that when a court rules for the state to give money to an individual or a private company, the Attorney General has to confirm the validity of the ruling and find the best way for the state in the matter is the responsibility of the Attorney General, Ibrahim Riffath.

Courts have recently ruled for the state to pay huge sums of money to companies as compensation after the government terminated contracts with them.

A recent case is that of the compensation for Dheebaajaa Investments after the contracts to registry service of Noonu, Raa, Baa, and Lhaviyani atolls contracted in 2010 was terminated in 2013.

Supreme Court recently ruled that MVR 348.10 million would have to be given to the company by the state as compensation.

Indicating to the ruling, the former President and the newly elect for parliament, Nasheed, tweeted that in the six months of President Solih’s presidency, the courts have ordered the government to pay an unusual amount of money.
