President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday affirmed that ancestors of Maldives have consistently defended the nation in every aspect; a legacy that is reflected in the nation's heritage.
President Dr Muizzu made the remarks during the National Day function held at Dharubaaruge, Wednesday.
In his remarks, President Dr Muizzu emphasised that Maldives as a nation has always stood firm against external threats. In this regard, he highlighted how Maldivians successfully resisted Portuguese military occupation.
The President asserted that Maldivians have consistently championed freedom and that this principle underpins his entire policy framework. He went on to detail that this dedication to freedom accounts for the absence of foreign military forces in the country. To support this commitment, he noted that advanced technology is being utilised to protect the nation's territory and enhance awareness through a newly implemented nationalist system.
Speaking on the occasion, the President highlighted that the key to the Maldives' enduring protection of its marine resources lies in their vital importance to the nation’s survival. He emphasised the need to cultivate dedicated and industrious generations to ensure continued loyalty and service to the country.
