Ibrahim Ikram, who was arrested following a dangerous car crash in Hulhumale' in July has been re-arrested hours after he was released by High Court.
The accident took place outside Vinares apartments in Hulhumale' Phase II when a speeding car crashed into a motorcycle on the side of the road causing severe injuries to a 27-year-old man.
Ikram, 33, fled the scene with two other people but they were arrested later that day. He was remanded in custody pending trial by Criminal Court. However, Ikram was released by High Court after he contested Criminal Court's decision on grounds that he was denied legal representation.
Police re-arrested Ikram with a Court order just hours after his release.
The situation has garnered criticism for police for failing to provide legal representation to the accused.
Addressing the criticism, Home Minister Ali Ihsan said that the case would be investigated and action taken against any party found negligent.
