The government on Sunday announced the decision to merge Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) with Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL).

Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that with the decision to make changes to companies doing the same work, there will be a significant reduction in costs.

"We have decided to merge with Maldives Airports Company Limited and Regional Airports Company Limited. We have set a target of January 31, 2025, so that we can complete the work together," the Minister said.

Minister Saeed said that once the decisions and administrative work are completed by the two companies on the basis of corporate governance, it will actually bring a huge savings and merger of the two companies will bring significant progress. He said that with this change, eight airports, including Hanimaadhoo, will be merged during the work.

The Cabinet also decided to consider transferring Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) under Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
