Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has said that he has not ordered an investigation into the use of force by the police in rescuing the woman who was taken hostage on Thursday night.
The Minister's statement comes after media reports that police were investigating the use of force in rescuing the woman.
In a post on X yesterday, the Home Minister said the allegations that an internal investigation into the use of force by the police in the rescuing of a woman was false and that such an investigation had not been ordered.
The police made a courageous effort to rescue the woman, he said. The Minister congratulated the police for their courageous efforts to rescue her.
Ahmed Athuhar was arrested on Thursday night in a high-stakes rescue operation after he held a woman hostage at knife-point and attempted to evade arrest. He sustained injuries when the police crept up behind him and hit his head with a baton in order to rescue the victim, who had a knife pressed against her throat.
The woman and man were treated at the hospital for injuries sustained during the rescue. Police confirmed that neither of them were seriously injured.
The man involved has been discharged from the hospital and is currently in police custody.
Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau also praised the police's action in the case.
