Two Malaysians have been arrested for smuggling drugs into the Maldives and trafficking them.

The arrested were identified as Ko Huan Boon and Ng Tham Lip.

The two were arrested and produced before the Criminal Court for remand, under the Criminal Procedure Act, where they were each ordered to be remanded for five days as they appeared to pose a threat to the safety of the community if released from custody.

However, the court also ordered to arrange for Ko Huan to meet his lawyer within these five days, as it was noted that he had been appointed a lawyer but had not met the lawyer.

Ng Tham Lip was given five days to arrange matters as he had not been able to meet the lawyer and wanted to speak to a representative of the Malaysian Embassy.
