President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge is a symbol of unity and trust between the two nations.

In a post on X, President Dr. Muizzu stated that the remarkable feat of engineering not only connects our islands but also symbolises the enduring partnership and mutual trust between the two great nations.

He further stated the bridge continues to be a testament to the shared vision of progress, unity, and prosperity between the two countries.

The Sinamale' Bridge, which was inaugurated during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure, is one of the largest projects ever undertaken in the Maldives.

The project cost USD 200 million, of which USD 116 million was a grant from the Chinese government. Another USD 72 million is Chinese loan assistance. The Maldivian government spent USD 12 million on the project.

The Sinamale' Bridge is 2 km long and 20.3 meters wide. Ships with a height of 12 metres in height can travel under the bridge.
