Criminal Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and fined him MVR 100,000 for drug trafficking.

Hassan Amir, B. Maalhos, was accused of trafficking drugs in his launch 'Huvan'. He was arrested near no. 1 jetty and police seized drugs from his pant pockets and the launch after receiving an intelligence tip-off.

Amir denied the charges against him, telling the court the drugs found in his pockets were slipped in by two men on a bike. He said that he did not realise it until police recovered the drugs from his pockets.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of MVR 100,000 within 12 months.
