Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said that harassing ambassadors and their families in the Maldives does not help the Palestinian cause.

Minister Dr. Shaheem's comments came after police arrested two women yesterday for repeatedly gathering near diplomatic missions and shouting slogans and harassing a particular ambassador.

Aishath Shadhiya and Dr. Shazra Ibrahim were arrested around 1300hrs on Wednesday following a court order.

The two women have been actively raising their voice against Israel's occupation of Palestine.

In a post on X, Minister Dr. Shaheem said harassing a particular ambassador or their family does not help the Palestinian cause.

Police said on Wednesday night that the women were accused of violating the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act by repeatedly gathering near diplomatic missions, using abusive language and obstructing the functioning of said mission.

Police further added that the women were also accused of obstructing police duties by refusing to disperse from the location after repeatedly being advised to do so.
