Former president Yameen Abdul Gayoom tried thrice to remove then Housing Minister, current President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from post, Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has revealed.
Speaking to Sangu TV, Abdul Raheem said Yameen had always discriminated against President Dr. Muizzu. As such, the former president tried on multiple occasions to have President Dr. Muizzu removed from his then post as Housing Minister, Abdul Raheem told Sangu TV. He added that Yameen was unable to follow through on this due to opposition from various people.
Abdul Raheem said that Yameen had criticised President Dr. Muizzu in front of the Cabinet over the Sinamale’ Bridge construction during 2018.
He went on to criticise Yameen as a lazy man who accumulated a political platform and following from the efforts of those close to him. As such, Abdul Raheem said that Yameen was only able to win party primary due to the support Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had.
Abdul Raheem further said that he had supported Yameen because he looked up to Yameen as a patriot, but withdrew support in 2023 when Yameen instructed the party to boycott elections if he was unable to contest.
