Speaker of the Parliament, PNC Chairperson Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said that former President Abdulla Yameen is a lazy person who got a political platform and came to power through the efforts of those who worked closely with him.

In an interview with Sangu TV on Tuesday night, Abdul Raheem said that he respected and supported Yameen a lot. He, however, said that Yameen's presidential election win in 2013 was not due to the latter being a great leader or having political popularity, but because of the support former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had.

He added that Yameen was only able to win the party primary due to Maumoon's support.

"Yameen did not create a political platform on his own; nor did he gain a political position through his own efforts. It is his supporters who gave him a platform," Abdul Raheem said.

He said Yameen's presidency was due to his supporters.

Abdul Raheem further said that he will not waiver from his political ideology and that he has remained steadfast with PPM/PNC even when the other leaders left.

He said that he supported Yameen because he at the time believed Yameen to be a very patriotic person, but withdrew his support when Yameen instructed to boycott the elections in 2023. He went on to say that this showed Yameen was a selfish person who did not wish anyone to have what he could not gain.
