Maldives has condemned Israeli minister Ben-Gvir's remarks about building a temple on Al-Aqsa mosque grounds.

Ben-Gvir made the remarks on a video in which he is seen visiting Al-Aqsa mosque compound.

Condemning the remarks, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Al-Aqsa mosque holds historical and religious significance to 1.8 billion Muslims. The Ministry's statement said that Al-Aqsa mosque is part of Islamic heritage as well.

"The international community must ensure that this does not happen and that the legal status and religious places of Al-Quds are not compromised," the Ministry said. Foreign Ministry called on Israel to respect the history and significance of Al-Aqsa mosque in accordance with international laws.

The Ministry further added that such statements by the Israeli government would hamper efforts to end war in Gaza.

Foreign Ministry said that the end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was to declare East Jerusalem as its capital, on the lines of the Palestinian borders before 1967, liberate Palestine from Israeli occupation and make it a sovereign and sovereign sovereign state.
