Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdullah, has said that he is proud to have his family members in government positions.

Public criticism has been directed towards the appointment of family members to various governments, with some claiming that nepotism is rampant in this administration.

Responding to such criticism in an interview with Sangu TV, the Speaker stated that he is proud to talk about his family members in government positions, adding that they are educated, qualified, and capable of leading their positions. He refuted claims that the government is being run by one family.

"This is a government brought about by our efforts. There will be our people in this government. They are educated, qualified people who know what they are doing. These also include people related to me, my children, and my family. I do not believe that this is being done to give power to one family, it is more that these people have been noticed by the President, who has provided them with opportunities best-fit for them through the necessary rules and procedures" he said.

He highlighted that while a PNC government is in power today, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and himself are in the forefront of it. Hence, he stressed that any advise necessary will be given to the President on the appointment of various people to government positions.
