The Judiciary Committee of the Parliament has asked the Prosecutor General's Office to provide the committee with some documents related to PG Shameem's dismissal.
The committee made the order following a motion by a committee member to obtain the documents in preparation for Shameem's appearance before the committee tomorrow to answer the allegations.
Submitting the motion to the committee, Fuvahmulah Medhu MP Fazad said the committee should receive documents on the decisions taken on some of the allegations against Shameem to be used as evidence when he is produced before the committee.
Among the documents Fazad has submitted are the withdrawal of the case against Ali Waheed for allegedly sexually harassing female employees of the ministry while he was the tourism minister. The documents include the withdrawal of human trafficking charges against former Milandhoo MP Ali Riza, the decision not to prosecute the ventilator case and the allegations against Shameem for discriminating against prosecutor's office employees.
Shameem has been accused of eight such major offenses in the dismissal motion.
Fazad's motion to obtain the documents was supported by Hura MP Dr. Anara Naeem. She said she wanted to know some evidence before the prosecutor appeared before the committee and therefore supported the motion made by MP Fazad.
The committee chairman, Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarak, said the prosecutor's office would be asked to share all the documents with the committee by today.
