The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has stated that 77 houses in 13 islands have been damaged by the recent heavy rains.

The NDMA said in a post on X today that the 77 households have submitted assessment forms. They further said that the farms of three islands were also severely damaged.

The NDMA is currently assessing the damages as submitted in the forms.

Out of 41 houses identified as needing assessment, 37 houses have been assessed, the NDMA said. Four houses in the city have said they do not want to be assessed. The damage to houses and belongings in the city amounted to MVR 819,549.

The current monsoon rains are causing flooding in many islands. Some streets in the city have been heavily flooded.
