Former Sports Minister Ahmed Zuhoor has been appointed Chairman of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) Normalization Committee.

One Sports can confirm through a reliable source that Zuhoor has been appointed as the chairman. FIFA has also fully formed the committee and finalized it.

Other members appointed by FIFA to the committee include Nexia Maldives co-founder and managing partner Fareeha Shareef, former Prosecutor General (PG) Al-Ustaz Ahmed Muizzu, Ismail Saimon and Ahmed Ali.

FIFA decided to normalize the Maldivian football authority on July 24th. FIFA said it had decided to normalize the FA on the advice of the AFC to resolve financial issues.

FIFA has decided to normalize the FA until the work is completed. However, FIFA has stipulated that the works must be completed by 31 July 2025 at the latest.

FIFA has placed enormous responsibilities on the Normalization Committee. In addition to carrying out its day-to-day duties, the FAM will review the Constitution and Electoral Code in accordance with FIFA Statutes and ensure compliance with those rules. In addition, FIFA has appointed the Normalization Committee to take necessary measures to recover the funds given by FIFA and AFC if former FAM officials and others have misused the funds.

It will become a form of hard work. The term of the FAM Executive Committee has expired and former president Bassam Adeel Jalil is still suspended from the association. Last month, the Independent Ethics Committee decided to suspend Bassamunder Article 86 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

FIFA said in a statement that Bassam was suspended following a notice issued by the Investigative Chamber. The chamber has requested the suspension of Bassam in connection with the corruption and money laundering investigation being conducted by the Prosecutor General's Office.

FIFA's development fund has been suspended since March, while the FIFA fund is being investigated for misuse.

The normalization committee will also start implementing the FIFA forensic audit report and restructure the FAM's debt in collaboration with an external financial consultant. The FAM has also asked FIFA to hold the election on a new legal framework and elect an executive committee.

Therefore, all the responsibilities have now been transferred to the five-member Normalization Committee.
