President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that his government is committed to fostering a research-oriented society that values knowledge and evidence as the cornerstones of development.
He made these remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the "Theveli International Conference 2024."
In his address, the President stated that this government envisions a Maldives in which every policy decision and every challenge is undertaken on evidence-based, professional solutions. He urged all stakeholders, including academia, researchers, policymakers, the private sector, and the general public, to work together on this crucial endeavor.
President Dr Muizzu highlighted the importance of our own research, stating that it is critical to enhance our research systems and guarantee that our development models fit with our communities, beliefs, and vision for the future. He pointed out this administration's efforts to promote research and development, as well as the establishment of a National Research Council as a cornerstone of a research-driven future.
The President urged everyone to value and support research, to ask questions, seek knowledge, and to participate actively in the nation's advancement. He also expressed optimism that together, we can assure the Maldives' continued growth, innovation, and prosperity in an ever-changing globe.
The seventh edition of the conference, organised by the Maldives National University (MNU), will take place from August 19-20, 2024. This year's theme is ‘Bridging Boundaries: Exploring Synergies Across Research Disciplines’.
