Parliament's Public Accounts Committee has approved a directive to the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority to strengthen measures to recover dues from Maldivian.
The committee's approval was part of the recommendations made by the civil aviation authority in its report prepared after reviewing its audit reports from 2014-2023 and sent to parliament.
In its report, the committee said the Civil Aviation Authority had not received MVR 5,33,132 out of the total dues. The report also recommended that the authority be asked to report to the committee the details of the amount earned if the money has not been recovered.
The committee also approved a directive to the Attorney General's Office to expedite the amendments to the law so that the funds required to raise the aviation safety standards and maintain it at a reasonable level are available to the Civil Aviation Fund, as mandated by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority Act.
The committee has also directed the Auditor General to examine the extent to which the authority has taken corrective action on the issues identified to be corrected in the audit report and the extent to which the recommendations for correction have been implemented.
