Famous businessman Mohamed 'OK' Zahir has passed away.

Zahir passed away at 4:30 am on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Asiri Hospital in Sri Lanka. He was 76 years old at the time of his passing.

Zahir is survived by his wife and nine children.

He was one of the leading activists in bringing about democratic changes in the Maldives. Zahir was also a board member of the Thilafushi Corporation during the first MDP government. He was also the President of the MDP Fonadhoo Constituency.

Zahir was a productive and innovative man who locally produced several news items in the country such as Bleaching Liquid, Talcum Powder and Harpic Liquid among many others.

He also exported fish and seafood, and played a leading role in the Chamber of Commerce.

Zahir was awarded the National Award in 1993 for the promotion of economic activity in the Maldives.
