The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is preparing to start construction of 15 parking buildings in Hulhumalé with a maximum capacity of 4,000 vehicles.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting held today to solve the traffic problem in the city, HDC Managing Director Fazul Rasheed said certain areas in Hulhumalé will be reserved for parking and will be announced at a later date. Separate areas for Parking will be on a lease-to-use basis, while visitor parking areas will also be developed.

Fazul said special arrangements will be made for both paid and free parking in the city.

"Thirdly, we are announcing about 15 parking buildings in the development plan in Hulhumalé. So this is approximately 4,000 parking spaces in the city,” Fazul said.

The parking building project will be carried out on a commercial basis, he said. The project will be announced by HDC within the next three months.
