Malé City Mayor Adam Azim has revealed that they are considering drawing red lines on street corners to prevent illegal and reckless parking.

Speaking to the press after a discussion session with the relevant authorities regarding the parking issues, Mayor Azim noted that many individuals park on street corners even now even though it is still illegal.

"Parking in such street corners is prohibited in addition to parking in places where there are no zones drawn out. We are considering to draw red lines on some street corners to raise further public awareness on this issue," Azim said.

Azim said police would immediately tow the vehicle if it is parked in a red-lined area. A red line is prohibited for parking for the convenience of everyone, he said.

The Mayor further added that towing vehicles is not easy for the Police or the council, and neither is drawing red lines. Hence, he appealed all to park responsibly in places that are allocated for doing so.

Azim stressed that if people continue parking their vehicles on the roads irresponsibly, the traffic problem will never be solved.
