Parliament's Judiciary Committee has decided to give five days for Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem to respond to the motion against him.
MP Shahid's letter was submitted to the Parliament today and the Speaker then announced that the case will be forwarded to the Judiciary Committee for further review.
The Committee meeting held today discussed allowing PG Shameem to respond to the allegations against him.
Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid proposed to inform Shameem in a letter that he could attend committee meeting and answer to the allegations. The committee approved the proposal.
As such, the committee's chair, Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarak, said he would send a five-day notice to Shameem in a letter today stating that he has the opportunity to respond to the allegations as per parliamentary rules.
Speaking at the meeting, MP Ibrahim Nazil said that eight allegations have been made to remove Shameem from the post of PG. Since there are serious allegations on religious and other grounds, it should be made clear to the public as well. MP Mauroof Zakir said PG Shameem should be given proper grounds to respond to the allegation.
Committee Chair added that whether the meeting will be made confidential or not is for the members to decide.
