Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu has said that the sports projects initiated by the previous government in various islands exceed the state's budget for two years.
The Minister made the statement while answering questions from Kanditheemu MP Ameen Faisal regarding the non-implementation of sports projects planned to be carried out in some islands of B. Atoll.
Minister Rafiu said the biggest problem in executing projects is that the budget does not allocate enough funds for the projects.
He pointed out that while several projects have already been taken up, funds allocated in the budget are insufficient to complete the projects.
Therefore, it has now been decided to take up the projects on priority basis and in consultation with the local bodies, he said.
The Minister asked the members to make efforts to include funds so that projects can be carried out while the state budget is passed by parliament.
